Foundation North have supported us this year in our mātauranga Māori and conservation principles programme focussed on connecting tamariki in our community with their place. This is a really important step in enabling children to have a sense of connection, which in turn will help them care about the natural environment as they grow up. This is critical to ensure that future generations take ownership for their natural environment. The Foundation North Funding also supports the key operations of our group and enables us to purchase items directly to support our Community Engagement work.
The Trusts have provided funding for the part-time salaries of our Group Coordinator and Group Coordinator Support roles, as well as day-to-day operational expenses. This funding enables:
-
Restoring the Tawa Esplanade Reserve: Transforming neglected urban scrub into a thriving native bush reserve through a multi-stage restoration project.
-
Progressing our Plan for a Pest-Free Peninsula: Implementing community-based trapping lines to control predators and protect native wildlife.
-
Advocating for Improved Public Infrastructure: Pushing for environmentally friendly infrastructure to reduce sewage overflows and treat stormwater before it enters Te Wai o Pareira.
-
Promoting Mātauranga Māori and Ecological Science Education: Partnering with local schools to enhance children's understanding of their land and ecological science.
-
Continuing Water Quality Testing: Monitoring pathogens and water quality in the awa and its tributaries to support our advocacy efforts.
The Lottery Grants Board has granted Riviercare Group Te Wai o Pareira funding to support our Predator Control Project. This will support both resources and materials for us to increase the predator control lines along the eastern border of Te Wai o Pareira, enabling us to work with other groups on the ambitious goal of a 'Pest Free Peninsula'.
The Alstef Group is a French company with a NZ subsidiary based in West Auckland. Alstef "is a global leader in baggage handling, air cargo handling, intralogistics, and parcel handling automation". We are very grateful to Alstef for supporting our group in the restoration of Tawa Esplanade and our pest control program
